Herztransplantation

Trotz der beachtlichen Weiterentwicklung der Systeme zur mechanischen Herzunterstützung ist eine Herztransplantation immer noch  der Goldstandard  der Therapie der  terminalen Herzinsuffizienz.  Wegen der Verknappung der Spenderorgane gibt es für viele Patienten allerdings keine Möglichkeit, ein neues Herz zu erhalten und sie sind auf das maschinelle Herzunterstützungssystem angewiesen.  In dem Moment allerdings, wo sie Komplikationen an dem maschinellen System erleiden oder anderen kritischen Situationen, kann die Anfrage an ein Spenderherz als hochdringlich gemeldet werden. Aber auch dann bestehen, je nach Eigenschaften des Patienten (Blutgruppe, Größe und Gewicht), häufig noch (Monate-) lange Wartezeiten.

Besondere Expertise

Prof. Albert war über Jahre für die operative Therapie der Herztransplantation in Düsseldorf zuständig. Seine Expertise umfasst auch komplexe Herztransplantationen wie bspw. von Patienten mit kompletten Kunstherzsystemen (TAH).
